Who we are
Dan Munro
Co-founder and Principal
Dan is a thinker, writer, teacher, and speaker with expertise in science, technology and innovation policy; ethics and moral philosophy; skills and education; and the movie JAWS. After completing a PhD at M.I.T., Dan launched a career in policy research and analysis, working for some of Canada's leading think tanks, including the Conference Board of Canada, the Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship, and the Council of Canadian Academies. He has taught philosophy, public policy, and innovation policy at a number of Canadian universities, written ethics and technology columns for Maclean’s Magazine and CIGI Online, and co-created and co-hosted The Ethics Lab - a weekly radio show that explored ethical issues from 2016 to 2021.
Dan is currently a Senior Fellow, teacher and the Director of Policy Projects in the Innovation Policy Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, and Researcher in Residence at Actua. When he met Shift co-founder Creig Lamb, Dan realized that he’d found the Matt Hooper to his Martin Brody and the two of them would need a bigger boat.
